Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA)
Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) was founded in 1901 as a freestanding children's hospital. Over the past 100 years it has grown to provide care for over 12,000 admissions, 250,000 outpatients and 55,000 Emergency Department visits annually. It also hosts the only American College of Surgeons Accredited Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in California. The Institution operates the largest neonatal/pediatric transport service in the United States. CHLA provides care for the children of Los Angeles, as well as receiving referrals from around the Pacific Rim, the Western United States and Europe. The Hospital trains 250 medical students, 80 full-time residents and 66 fellows a year, plus hundreds of other allied health professionals. In addition, the Hospital is third in the United States among children's hospitals in extramurally funded research ranging from basic science, to translational research and other widespread clinical research programs. CHLA supports the local community and international programs in Asia, South America, Russia and Africa and collaborates with investigators from around the world. Located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California, CHLA has grown from its early clinical beginnings to become an International Leader in children's health care.
